An Introduction

(Kay Jewelry)

The moments I remember most in life are the ones that took a simple instant and made it into something extraordinary. Getting married last year, during Covid, was challenging because it needed to be small, simple and safe. Though it was little and intimate, the ring and celebration were so grand in my mind because of the emotions that were flowing through me. The symbolism and meaning behind that ring and coming together that day to celebrate our love and union is a feeling that I'll always remember. While it was during a trying time in the world, that special morning was priceless.

The journey to when you reach these “bigger moments” in life is so precious and valuable. My wedding ring reminds me of that everyday. Jewelry is spectacular, because it encapsulates the spirit of a moment and makes it something that endures all our trials and hardships. The people and the emotion behind that memory stay with you always. These memories are like life souvenirs that we can recollect with just a mere glance at a ring or necklace. This is what life is about. Collecting moments.

The Approach

(Captain Morgan)

Uniting people through their camaraderie and fandom shows a beautiful side to humanity that can be easily overlooked. Let's show a world that we believe in, that brings us close to one another. This spot should make us feel like we are a part of their world and that anything that can happen to the main character can happen to us too! Each scene and moment will be natural and sincere. It's terribly hard to pull away from a tv screen when real moments are happening on it. Especially since everyone can look down at their phone to be distracted at any given moment, it's crucial to keep the actors alive and unpredictable on screen. The nominees’ journeys should feel organic as if they were talking to a friend. Honesty is what speaks to everyone; no matter your age, gender, or ethnicity.

Getting to know the people we film on a more personal level will allow me to lead them easily into the heart of their stories once the camera starts to roll. It’s the nuances of their facial expressions, movements and thoughts that will immerse our audience into these human moments that allow our viewers to relate and connect. Let's pull at those heart strings while downing some delicious spiced rum!

Tone and Style

(Feature Film-Undisclosed Title)

I’d like to make a timeless story that focuses on a strong friendship like the 90s movies I grew up on. Something sincere and familiar. There are dramatic-emotional moments, and there are comedic-ridiculous moments. It’s like The Fox and The Hound, but in real life and with actual people, not cartoons, you know... with mature adult scenarios! The love of these two friends should feel like a giant hug through the screen -- “And we’ll always be friends forever...yeah forever.”

Each relationship with the men in this story should be very unique. I want a distinct, fun difference between each interaction -- how Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World showed each ex girlfriend in such a creative way. Josh is a very cliche Von Dutch wearing, trucker hat type of guy. George is the traditional, hot guy next door that has an idea of how good looking he is but tries to hide that he knows. Juan enters into Laney’s life like he was blown in from the wind by the gods above. His long brown hair sweeping across his eyes; his dimpled half smile matches Laney’s rosy cheeks. Everyone watching knows these guys, or has met men like this.

Let's Edit This

(Ebay)

Timing for the edit is critical in order to capture the lighthearted, absurdist tone. Humor can land smooth or rough all depending on the timing. My goal is to capture a range of reactions, so we have a large variety of options to pull from to deliver the best moments. Let's welcome the awkward silent moments, as well as the sporadic transitions. Having the cuts be effortless and organic will sell the situation and not make it look too stagey. It’s great that we have 60 seconds to deliver the message, because there’s room for humor to breathe, and there’s also urgency to keep it moving. The audience will process the comedy and laugh while the spot is moving onto the next thing.

While Coyote has blocks of dialogue, I want to show B-roll scenes at the same time so that we get a visual pushing the story forward along with the audio. Having the narration interject and address the situation while we see it can create a more playful and fun journey. The evolution of the characters will be endearing and comical to watch. The family doesn’t quite figure out the Coyote handshake at the beginning, but by the end they’ve more than got it. It's like the movie Little Giants: misfit peewee football team is training to oppose an elite team. The family is the misfit team, Coyote is the coach and the opposing elite team is the rest of the world. Stepping out into the world after being in lockdown kind of feels like getting back into the game. There's humor and chaos throughout the process, but a lot of heart and understanding as well.

Outro

(Smirnoff)

I’m honored to help bring the people to the party in this spot! If talking about it is this fun, I can only imagine how thrilling it will be to film it. Having Smirnoff appreciate everyone for who they are makes me proud to be a part of this. My life struggles have made me who I am and this commercial has helped me appreciate that even more now. Let’s celebrate all of us and crack open a Smirnoff Pink Lemonade. Let's get it started!
